August, 2006  Lake Renovation (Lamar County, Texas)
We were contacted by a landowner who recently purchased a parcel of land with a lake. The lake was built a few years ago and he was told it held water and would eventually clear up.

When we arrived on the site, there were obvious problems.

1) The muddy water
2) Severe erosion
3) Steep slopes on front and back of dam (too dangerous to mow)
4) No grass

The original contractor did not “save” the top soil. Separating the soils takes time and money .

If your contractor bids the job to move “X” amount of cubic yards of dirt- any kind of dirt- you are taking a chance whether or not top soil will be in place for grass to grow.

Grass needs top soil to grow.
Grass needs to be established to prevent erosion around the lake/pond.
Grass will prevent eroding soils from washing into the lake, causing cloudy water.
