Graford Multi Use

Multi Use Project - Graford,TX  Summer 2007

An ambitious project involving the construction of 6 lakes.  3 of the lakes were placed upstream of the showcase lake to provide stock water and filtration of the water flowing into the showcase lake. This greatly reduces silting of the main lake.  One lake was constructed in a remote area of the tract to provide stock water and the last lake was constructed specifically as a duck hunting venue. Water for stock is extremely important in this area as there is no ground water readily available.

Aerial view - the large rectangular area on the left was where we 'borrowed' red sand to improve the access road into the property.

The Base Camp. To improve efficiency, we lived onsite due to the remote location.

Notice the plastic water tank by the utility pole. There is no ground water in this area and water for our personal use was trucked in from Graford.

The first step for any lake project is a series of test holes to determine soil type and percolation.

The existing pond on the property was old, inadequate and ugly. The water was desperately needed for the stock and was drained into a new area.

Draining the old pond

The water was saved from the old pond. There is no ground water in this area and stock tanks are the only source of livestock water.

The new holding tank for the existing water. The old pond will be renovated and included in the showcase lake.

Servicing and fueling equipment at day's end.
